Do NOT pay cash to home-repair
contractors or tree-removal services. Do NOT pay a contractor in
advance. Require contractors to obtain all licenses and permits
themselves. Make sure that tree-removal services have proper
occupational licenses from the county. Hire reputable, established,
businesses, not "contractors" who knock on your door. Get
more than one repair estimate. Check the payment terms and other
provisions carefully before signing a contract.
